INITIAL STORY
I have volunteered with UCLH (University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust) since 2021.
My roles are massage & wellbeing therapist and reiki practitioner, working to bring positive progress and energy to many challenging cases.
I started after COVID-19, strongly wanting to help NHS with my abilities and knowledge.
Since 2024 I have been representing UCLH Charity as a Charity Ambassador, trying to help them as much as possible.
I am strongly motivated to do this fundraising because I am at UCLH almost every week and witness first-hand how the charity's amazing projects are helping the hospital, the patients and the staff!
Please help my cause by donating and sharing this page with your friends.
About UCLH Charity
UCLH Charity is the official registered charity supporting the six hospitals of UCLH NHS Foundation Trust.
They raise funds to support patients, staff and research - above and beyond what the NHS can provide.
The charitable giving impact is huge, and I'll list here just a few projects made possible by charitable funds in the last 2 years (since 2022)
- The UK's first clinical research project into long Covid in the UK, leading to a better understanding of the condition, improved diagnostics and new treatments
- Car-T cell research (immunotherapy treatment)
- Prostate cancer study to improve pre-surgical planning
- Improving the Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) unit in the Grafton Way Hospital
- The refurbishment of the University College Hospital children and young people's emergency department
- Creation of a new staff room and kitchen on the seventh floor of University College Hospital giving staff respite during busy shifts
- Improving the gardens across UCLH
- Funding a range of capital costs and uplifts to the stem cell transplant unit at the University College Hospital Grafton Way Building
- Supporting the UCLH staff choir - which became a really joyful and caring community
- Supporting The Staff Spa - an all-volunteer service that offers complementary therapies to staff members
- Improved WiFi connectivity in the children's cancer ward at University College Hospital, giving young patients the ability to connect with friends, family and attend school virtually while undergoing prolonged stays in the hospital
About the 10k race:
The race is scheduled for 22 September 2024
With a 10K route taking in many of the capital's most iconic landmarks - culminating with a finish in front of Buckingham Palace - the Vitality London 10,000 is ideal for beginners and PB-chasers alike.
Add to the excitement by running (or walking or jogging!) your 10K for charity and celebrate the causes you care about at the Vitality London 10,000! At the same time, boost your mental health and wellbeing, like thousands did in 2023 in support of our #DoItForYou campaign.
About my preparation for the race:
I started to prepare in April 2024 and tried to run a weekly 5k Parkrun.
I ran the 5k distance about 15 times until now.
I can't run outdoors too often as I'm (sadly) still too heavy for a runner and I develop ankle pain after running more than 20-30 minutes.
But I tried to improve my stamina with a bit of gym, stationary bike and cross-trainer.
Recently I completed 10k twice at a slow pace, as a mock race, and I'm quite confident I can do the job!
Thank you everyone in advance for all your help and support!
